What is revision rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is the second surgery performed on someone who has already had nose surgery, when they are unhappy with the result of the first operation or a new functional problem has appeared. Every revision is a case in its own right, because the structures of the nose were changed by the first surgery.
With which complaints is it considered?
Breathing difficulty or nasal obstruction after surgery, a drooping tip or shape problems, marked irregularity of the bridge, asymmetry and collapse of the nose are the main reasons for revision. Not every complaint requires surgery: first the source of the complaint is identified, and non-surgical options or waiting are also considered.
How long should you wait?
It takes time for the nasal tissue to settle and the swelling to resolve completely. For this reason it is generally recommended to wait at least one year after the first surgery before revision. If there is a serious problem with nasal function, this period is assessed together with the doctor, case by case.
Why is planning different?
In revision, the surgeon assesses what the previous surgery involved, the existing cartilage support and the condition of the tissue. If considered necessary, the person’s own tissues can be used for cartilage support. The report of the previous surgery and old photographs are very valuable at this stage.
